WITH LIVE PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT BY CAROLYN SWARTZ
JANUARY 3, 2019, 7 PM
In Battleship Potemkin (1925) director Sergei Eisenstein reshaped cinema through his groundbreaking approach to montage – an intersection of images that creates the unique grammar of film. Capturing the mutiny of mistreated sailors and a massacre of innocents on the Odessa Steps (a landmark moment in cinema), the film transcends its role as Soviet propaganda, earning a place among the top must-see films. Featuring live piano accompaniment by Carolyn Swartz. Jan. 3, 7 p.m., St. Lawrence Arts. $8.
