Psycho (1960) is a tour-de-force for director Alfred Hitchcock and his editor wife Alma Hitchcock. One of Hitchcock’s greatest films (others might be Shadow of a Doubt, Strangers on a Train,, Sabotage, and The Thirty-Nine Steps), Psycho lives within the zeitgeist of 1950s America Hitchcock made the film look like a cheap exploitation film and shot with his television show crew rather than his feature film crew who had just finished making North by Northwest. Psycho was the most shocking film its original audience members had ever seen; it is still one of the greatest thriller movies of all-time.
